The brand-new BEVA PPE toolkit is here

We’re thrilled to finally be able to launch the brand-new BEVA PPE Toolkit – your updated, easy-access hub for everything related to Pre-Purchase Examinations (PPEs).

Background – from the ‘PPE Bible’ to a modern digital guide

Back in 1991, BEVA published the original PPE Manual, edited by Tim Mair. It quickly became known as “the PPE bible” and has guided vets for decades.

Around ten years ago, we recognised the need to refresh and modernise this important resource. After lots and lots of convoluted discussion about format and accessibility, we began the long job of rewriting the content into a user-friendly digital guide. Many experienced equine vets contributed to the new version, and it has also been reviewed by the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS).

We hope the new PPE Guide is easy to use and helpful in your day-to-day work – and we’d love your feedback on both the content and the format.

Seller Declaration – updated and simplified

During the development process (which was delayed in part by the Covid-19 pandemic), we took the opportunity to review how Seller Declarations were handled. In response to concerns about paper handling and streamlining the process, we created a standalone, digital Seller Declaration.

This new format lets sellers fill in the form in advance of the PPE – without the vet needing to act as an intermediary. Purchasers can now see key information earlier, giving them the chance to raise questions or even reconsider the PPE before it takes place.

The updated Seller Declaration has now been formally adopted as a standalone document and is supported by both the British Horse Society (BHS) and British Equestrian (BEF). Vet practices and purchasers can now simply direct sellers to the online form and ask for it to be completed ahead of the PPE.

Updated BEVA PPE Worksheet

Because the Seller Declaration now stands alone, the BEVA PPE Worksheet has been revised too. Updates include:

• Tack used in Stage 3

• Additional radiographic views (hind fetlock and stifle)

New pads of the updated worksheet are available to order now from the BEVA online shop.
