The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has opened nominations for the second year of its One To Watch Award - a prestigious acknowledgement of some of the brightest emerging talent in equine veterinary practice.
Designed to recognise exceptional early-career equine vets who are already making a major impact, the award celebrates those driving excellence in clinical care, championing horse welfare, inspiring teams, and helping shape the future of the profession.
The winner will be revealed at this year’s BEVA Congress at the ICC Birmingham in September. The lucky individual will receive an exclusive package of career-enhancing prizes, including:
- A trophy presented at BEVA Congress
- One year’s complimentary BEVA membership
- A fully funded BEVA Congress experience, including accommodation and annual dinner ticket
- Exclusive career-development opportunities with BEVA
All finalists will also receive a complimentary one-day ticket to BEVA Congress.
Open to nominations from colleagues, mentors and clients alike, the award aims to uncover the profession’s next generation of leaders.
“The BEVA One To Watch Award is about recognising those future leaders early and celebrating the incredible contribution they’re already making to equine practice,” said BEVA Council Member Gemma Dransfield, who helped establish the award.
“These individuals are raising standards, inspiring others and helping define the future of equine veterinary care. If you have a shining equine veterinary star in your midst, whether you are their colleague, mentor or mentee, we would love to receive your nomination.”
Eligible nominees must:
- Be a BEVA member
- Have graduated within the past seven years
- Be registered with the appropriate professional body, such as the RCVS
Each nomination must include a seconder, with either the nominator or seconder holding BEVA membership. A judging panel comprising senior veterinary and industry professionals will review all submissions, selecting up to five finalists for an informal online interview.
Archie Moffatt was the inaugural winner of BEVA’s One to Watch Award, in 2025. Archie, who is a vet at Stable Close Equine Practice in Winchester, was one of four candidates shortlisted from all the nominations.
He said: “It’s has been a real pleasure to be recognised through this award. I feel lucky to be part of such an inspiring profession and do really believe the future is very bright with all the young vets coming through. I wish the best of luck to all the candidates for this year.”
Nominations are now open and will close on 1 June 2026.
