The UK Government has published new guidance for the veterinary sector ahead of the proposed UK–EU SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) agreement.

The aim is to reduce friction in the movement and trade of animals, animal products, food and feed between the UK and EU, with potential reductions in checks, paperwork and certification requirements over time. Businesses involved in certification, exports, imports, border processes and related veterinary services are being advised to review supply chains, monitor regulatory developments and prepare for updated trading arrangements. The guidance also highlights the growing importance of animal ID, registration and traceability systems, which are likely to become increasingly central to future disease control, trade and compliance arrangements. The document remains high level, with further detail expected as negotiations and implementation plans progress.
