Live scoping returns to BEVA CPD this November

This autumn, once again, we're offering equine vets the chance to get hands-on experience with guttural pouch scoping using live horses under expert guidance.

On Wednesday 5 November 2025, at Twemlows Stud Farm (Shropshire), you will be able to build your confidence and skills in a practical, supportive setting led by experienced clinicians.

Why it matters

Whether it's because of the fiddly technique itself or the high-stakes situations it's often used in (think strangles outbreaks or guttural pouch mycosis), for many equine vets, guttural pouch scoping can be one of those procedures that feels intimidating in practice. This course is designed to strip away that anxiety by giving you the chance to practise in a small-group environment with expert backup.

"GP scoping can be really tricky, especially if it's not something you've done much of before," explains Sarah Gasper, Learning Manager at BEVA, "By giving people the chance to practise on live horses with expert support, we're helping to build real confidence before they face it in the field."

What to expect on the day

Alongside practical scoping sessions, the programme will cover the decision-making process and you will have the opportunity to update your knowledge on managing complications and treating common conditions like strangles, chondroids and GP mycosis.

With a small group size and approachable speakers including Bruce Bladon, Mark Bowen and Gayle Hallowell, the day offers a valuable chance to combine expert teaching with hands-on learning.

Spaces are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
