Full-Time Ambulatory Equine Vet - Emerson & Watson Equine Veterinary Surgeons - Berkshire

Ambulatory Vet
15 Oct 2025 BEVA

FULL-TIME AMBULATORY EQUINE VET, BERKSHIRE AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES

Exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic equine vet to join our friendly, supportive, and progressive independent ambulatory veterinary practice. Located between Ascot and Henley-on Thames, and within easy reach of London and major airports, the practice serves a diverse and distinguished client base, from high-goal polo teams to professional showjumpers, dressage riders and leisure clients.

While the successful applicant will be expected to work independently, they will be very well supported by the practice’s other vets and dedicated, knowledgeable office staff. We foster a collaborative environment within the team, and hold in-depth weekly meetings to discuss all ongoing cases and share knowledge and insights. As proud members of XLVets, a community of independently owned practices, we also have access to a wider shared knowledge base with regular group meetings, including clinical and non-clinical CPD.

The practice has a substantial pool of portable diagnostic and therapeutic equipment available to all the vets, including four wireless DR systems, six ultrasound scanners, video gastroscope, video endoscope, focal shockwave, therapeutic laser, four motorised dental kits, and an in-house blood machines. We aim to perform comprehensive case work-ups on yards, with referrals usually made for advanced diagnostics and surgery. The practice has strong supportive relationships with leading referral hospitals in the Southeast.

On top of paid annual leave, the practice operates a discretionary four-day-working-week during the winter months and a nine-day-working-fortnight during the summer months. Out-of-hours cover is shared amongst the team and an external out-of-hours provider, with days off in lieu of weekends on call. Currently, the rota varies from around 1 in 5 during the summer months, to around 1 in 12 during the winter months.

As well as a competitive salary, the package includes accommodation (if required), private medical insurance, workplace pension scheme, use of a well-equipped work vehicle, an iPhone and an iPad, VDS cover and memberships of RCVS and BEVA. All CPD opportunities that are relevant and beneficial to the practice, as well as to the individual, are considered and are rarely restricted to a fixed allowance. Certificates are encouraged and fully funded.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a professional and supportive team, and care for a variety of performance horses and loyal clients.
