We’re recruiting . . . Equine Veterinary Surgeon
Scott Mitchell Veterinary Care are seeking an additional equine vet to come and join our team of 6 equine vets plus support staff, which currently includes 3 certificate holders and 1 RVN.
Established in 2001, we’re a proudly independent equine and small animal practice serving predominantly Northumberland and County Durham. Our equine team are based at our Hexham headquarters, where our clinic facilities include stabling that’s staffed 24hours, stocks, treatment room, trotting and lunging areas, knockdown and theatre facilities - all in a historic market town that’s frequently voted Rightmove’s Happiest Place to Live in the UK.
We aim to offer a comprehensive first opinion equine service, as well as some referral services in support of our neighbouring practices, to a population and caseload that is a truly mixed bag: everything from pet ponies and donkeys to racing and sports horse work (including horses regularly competing internationally). To do this our vets have access to all the kit you’d expect including multiple setups of digital radiography, ultrasound scanners, powerfloats, and endoscopes; as well as visiting specialists when required. We’re regularly found on duty at races and shows, and providing consulting and lecturing services too.
Vets have the freedom to create their own blend of ambulatory and clinic work and can follow their own cases with help whenever they need it. Our CPD budget is unlimited, and we value both hard and soft skills. There’s the opportunity to get involved with the XLVets community as well as our in-house company: CPD Actif; where we combine training with skiing and sailing adventures overseas!
Our ideal candidate would be experienced and seeking to work full time as an equine vet, including a share in our out of hours rota (no more than 1 in 5). Most importantly though, we want someone to join our team who cares as much as we do for our clients, their animals, each other, and our community. An exceptional new graduate that did just that would be considered and supported both in house and through the XLVets program.
Please apply with your CV and covering email to our Practice Manager, Anne Grieve; or phone or WhatsApp Steph Cook (07934 856262) or Euan Laidlaw (07542847164) for a friendly and confidential chat.
