The Project:
The directors of Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital, Dr Tias Muurlink and Daniel Chapman have a vision to create a unique and high standard Equine Hospital. The concept was developed to provide a different option for horse owners by providing state-of-the-art comprehensive hospital-based care for horses in the region. Our focus will be to provide the best standard of care possible
The hospital will start providing clinical services from the 19th January 2026. The first stage will offer full medical and surgical specialist level care, as well as a range of other services including lameness assessments, poor performance evaluations, some reproduction services, dentistry and other general practice type care. The concept is to provide hospital-based care only. Further services including advanced imaging will be added in subsequent stages of development.
The Team:
The most critical contributor to the success for a hospital of this nature is the quality and cohesion of the team. We value each team member as being vital to the overall success of the project.
Our vision is to create a work environment which is supportive of all staff members, creating a team which works together to deliver exceptional patient care and customer satisfaction.
We are looking to recruit experienced specialist veterinarians to lead our service delivery alongside our Clinical Director, Tias Muurlink.
Initially, we are seeking a specialist Equine Surgeon (1 FTE) and an Equine Medical Specialist or Specialist in Anaesthesia and Critical Care (1 FTE).
No less important we are seeking to appoint veterinarians (n=2 FTE) of varying levels of experience in roles to support our caseload, with special interests in dentistry, reproduction, sports medicine or general practice as well as supporting the specialists in managing the referral caseload.
We will also consider recent graduates who wish to embark on a career in equine practice in a newly established hospital striving for excellence.
Part time and flexible work arrangements will be considered for all positions to ensure we can bring together the right people to fulfill our vision.
The Individuals:
To make our vision work we will need versatile, practical team players with a can-do attitude who wish to provide the best care possible to address each individual patient’s unique circumstances. All members will be the type of person who makes patient outcomes and client satisfaction their first priority while not neglecting to be respectful and supportive of all the team. It will start as a small team and this will bring challenges with all members of the team being stretched at times, but we will strive to make sure all get the support they need to allow us to meet the overall goals and ensure our vision is successful.
