Emerald Equine Vets – Additional Vet Required – South Yorkshire

We are a friendly, supportive, and independent ambulatory practice with a strong reputation in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Passionate about equine health and client satisfaction, we are seeking an additional equine vet to help us continue providing outstanding care to our growing and diverse client base.

Are you an ambitious and passionate equine veterinarian looking to take the next step in your career or just about to start out? Why not do it in an environment that’s not just another corporate clinic. We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our vibrant and forward-thinking practice, where you'll have the chance to refine your clinical skills, focus on high-quality lameness and performance work, and be mentored by an experienced lameness practitioner.

We are currently a single-vet clinic but have grown rapidly in the past year. Our primary work involves lameness assessments and poor performance cases, serving a diverse client base from professional sports horses to pleasure riders. With a traditional, family-like environment, we encourage vets to connect with clients. Our business thrives on kindness, fair pricing, and honesty.

  • Emerald Equine Vets was founded by Dr. Philip McKervey DVM MRCVS from Downpatrick, Ireland, in September 2024. Dr. McKervey completed his veterinary degree in Budapest, interned at Towcester Equine Vets in Northamptonshire, and worked for two years at Summerhill Equine in the Cotswolds with leading National Hunt trainers. With over eight years of equine-specific experience, he is eager to share his expertise with the right candidate.
  • This position is suitable for recent graduates or individuals who have completed an internship programme and wish to develop their skills in lameness assessment, with opportunities to work alongside our director, who focuses on lameness and performance evaluations.
  • Accommodation in an attractive rural location in North Lincolnshire can be provided as part of the package.
  • A Continuing Professional Development (CPD) allowance of £1,500 is provided, with encouragement to pursue a Certificate in Lameness and Diagnostic Imaging or another relevant area. Professional subscriptions—including membership to the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), and Veterinary Defence Society (VDS)—are also included.
  • Veterinarians who require a visa to work may apply.
  • NO DENTISTRY WORK (With the exception of routine wolf teeth removals).
  • NO REPRODUCTION WORK (We may expand into this area if the right candidate comes on board but currently have no work in this area).
  • We are only 1 year old as a clinic, owned solely by our director and have no affiliation to any corporate organisation. This is the perfect opportunity to join a young and expanding business with the possibility of eventually becoming a partner, which no corporate or big company can ever offer a young vet our director knows this feeling all too well).
  • 4 or 5 day working week (exact salary will be commensurate).
  • Out of hours rota will be a 1 in 2, but we are in the process of securing an agreement with another local clinic to reduce this to a 1 in 3 or 1 in 4.
  • Salary range of £30-45,000 depending on level of experience (New Grad v Internship etc) with possibility of a performance-based bonus scheme and bonus for OOH work done.
  • Vehicle can be provided if needed.
  • Mobile Phone and Tablet provided.
  • Practice Software: Vet IT (Has an android/apple app for on the road work).
  • Modern DR X Ray Kit, Ultrasound Machine, Upper Airway Endoscope with plans to purchase a new Gastroscope soon.
  • Each Vet has their own Stable Lab SAA Meter for sick horses and colic cases.
