Equine Medicine Clinician - Veterinary Associates - New Zealand

Vet
15 May 2025 BEVA

Veterinary Associates Equine is a progressive general and referral practice with a hospital located in Karaka, South Auckland, New Zealand and satellite practices in Kumeu, West Auckland, and Warkworth, North Auckland. The three practices are involved in all types of equine pursuits, including sport horses, Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses, stud work, and pleasure horses, providing a tremendous variety of work.

We are looking for an equine veterinarian with a background in managing medicine and critical care cases to join our team. The position is a combined role between our medicine team and our ambulatory team and is designed to provide coverage both in the field and in the hospital. The after-hours work will be shared with two other medicine clinicians, including one ACVIM-LA Diplomate, and involves the management of hospital patients admitted through the medicine service. The daytime work will consist of a mixture of general first-opinion field work and assistance in the shared care of our medicine caseload, both in the hospital and in the field. This position would suit either a non-specialist with experience working in a hospital setting or a board-certified or board-eligible equine internist with an interest in providing both general and referral services in the field and in the hospital. Should the medicine caseload continue to grow and develop, there may be scope for this role to focus more on those cases.

Members of the medicine service contribute to our practice culture through participation in regular team meetings, topic rounds, journal club, and team-building activities. Involvement in the training and mentorship of our interns is a key component of the role. We pride ourselves on a work environment that is supportive, friendly, and engages a team-approach with the medicine service collaborating with all members of the practice to provide high-quality veterinary care to our patients and their owners.

New Zealand is renowned for the great outdoors, and our local area is no exception. We have incredible beaches, surfing, fishing, forest and bush walks, and great local schools. Being on the outskirts of a large city, many restaurants are nearby, and city culture is a short drive away. Many of our staff are involved in equestrian sports, including popular local hunts, show jumping, pony club, racing, and polo. This is a great opportunity to join our Vet Associates Equine family and to be part of our growing practice with a work schedule that allows you to enjoy beautiful New Zealand! https://www.newzealand.com/nz/auckland/

A vehicle is provided, and a competitive salary will be commensurate with experience and includes shared emergency fees. In addition, paid licensure, a CE/CPD budget, cell phone package, and paid professional liability are all part of the benefits package. New Zealand offers a publicly funded national healthcare system and an employer-matched retirement savings plan known as “KiwiSaver.” Four weeks of annual leave are included with additional days off for after-hours work.

To submit an application, or should you have any questions about the position, please contact us by email at practicemanager@vetassociates.co.nz or by phone at +6492947307. Applications should include a cover letter, a CV, and the names and contact details of three references.
