REIN In AMR launches national equine AMR analytics dashboard

We are pleased to announce that REIN In AMR (Reporting Equine Infections and Non-susceptibility using In-vitro Antimicrobial Resistance testing), a government-funded initiative led by Equine Infectious Disease Surveillance (EIDS), has launched a new analytics dashboard to strengthen surveillance of equine antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across the UK.

AMR poses a growing threat to the equine sector. Until recently, equine AMR surveillance has been disconnected; most antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) data remained within individual private veterinary laboratories (PVLs), inaccessible for broader national surveillance. REIN In AMR bridges this gap by facilitating secure data sharing between PVLs, EIDS and the government. This collaborative approach transforms raw data into clinically relevant outputs that directly support equine AMR surveillance.

The launch of this dashboard marks a significant step toward standardised data-driven monitoring. The platform aggregates and harmonises AST data from collaborating PVLs across the UK, transforming previously fragmented datasets into accessible, clinically relevant insights. The dashboard offers:

  • Filtering of organisms and specific organism–antimicrobial combinations
  • Equine demographic profiling to contextualise resistance findings
  • Spatial and temporal analysis to identify geographical and longitudinal trends in sampling and AMR
  • Pathogen resistance profiling tools, including heat maps and resistance distribution summaries

REIN In AMR has collaborated with BEVA by integrating elements from their ProtectME toolkit for practice policies into the dashboard, alongside World Health Organisation (WHO), European AMR Expert Group (AMEG) and Equine Veterinarians Australia guidelines. This ensures that AST data are interpreted alongside established One Health-relevant guidance, supporting responsible antimicrobial use (AMU) and adherence to the veterinary prescribing cascade.

By establishing a sustainable data-collation framework, REIN In AMR should enable earlier detection of emerging resistance patterns and supports evidence-based clinical decision-making within the UK equine sector. Further enhancements, including expanded laboratory participation and additional analytical outputs, are planned as the surveillance network continues to develop.
