Mayes and Scrine Equine Veterinary Practice, Dawes Farm, RH12 3SH
A very practical 'hands on' course designed for new or recent graduates or those in mixed practice with varied levels of equine work. The course will cover sedation and field anaesthesia required for common field surgery such as castration, both in theory and in a practical session.
You will gain the confidence to lead field castration under general anaesthesia (GA) and also understand why some GAs go smoother than others, and how to get the best possible outcome for the GA and surgery.
We will also be discussing case selection, where you carry out field anaesthesia and what risk factors are important to consider in your decision making.
As you will be anaesthetising and operating on live colts we do require that the pre-learning for this course is completed prior to the course to ensure everyone involved avoids risk of injury.
This course is part of our Fundamentals of Equine Practice series. By working with leading equine practices we’ve developed 10 practical courses that provide the essential skills necessary to thrive in equine practice. See the rest of the series.
