Are you an experienced equine vet seeking a fulfilling career in a location that truly inspires?
Picture yourself joining our dynamic team at Ardene House, nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Aberdeenshire. We're looking for a vet with a lameness bias to join us, with the confidence to lead our lameness workups and support newer graduate vets. An extra qualification (Certificate, Advanced Practitioner etc) in orthopaedics/lameness would be an advantage, but this is not essential. We would also be open to welcoming an orthopaedic surgeon, with the opportunity to develop your own caseload for elective (+/- emergency) surgeries in our area.
Why Ardene House?
• Exceptional Clinical Opportunities: You'll be working in the largest and best-equipped equine practice in the region, handling a diverse caseload from beloved family ponies to high-level competition horses. Our reputation extends far and wide, with referrals coming from the Scottish islands and beyond.
• State-of-the-Art Facilities: Our facilities include 7 stables, trot-up areas, a synthetic surface outdoor school, a dedicated treatment room, stocks, a knockdown box, and a fully equipped surgical theatre. We're invested in providing the best, with modern equipment like portable DR radiography, multiple ultrasound scanners, surgical and rehabilitation lasers, and video arthro- and endoscopes.
• Specialist Support Network: Collaborate with our advanced practitioner in equine internal medicine, a vet working towards their emergency and critical care certificate, visiting specialists and advanced practitioners in equine dentistry and our visiting orthopaedic surgeon, John Marshall (of Thistle Equine Referrals), who currently joins us monthly to provide support with lameness work ups and surgeries.
• A Team That Feels Like Family: We're a friendly, international team of equine vets, an equine RVN, nursing assistants, and support staff. We value open communication, collaboration, and a good laugh!
• Work-Life Balance: We understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance. We were pioneers in flexible working and have a dedicated out of hours on-call vet, who covers 50% of the on call shifts. This currently means a 1:8 OOH rota for the rest of the team, with a half day after a weeknight and a Friday off after a weekend on-call. Let's discuss a schedule that works for you.
• Aberdeenshire: Your Outdoor Playground: Immerse yourself in the stunning natural beauty of Aberdeenshire. From majestic mountains to breathtaking coastlines, you'll find endless opportunities for outdoor adventures.
• Continuous Learning and Strong Ethical Standards: We're committed to your professional development, with bi-monthly journal clubs. We share and discuss cases regularly, and stay ahead of the curve, with a strong ethical approach in areas like antimicrobial resistance and sustainable worming practices.
• Social Connections: We believe in fostering strong team bonds. Enjoy regular outings like beach walks, restaurant visits, badminton, and more. Excellent communication within the team, in and out of hours (social, emergency, general - up to you, how much/little you want to be involved).
• Excellent Package: Competitive salary (up to £65,000, a warm welcome bonus of up to £5,000, and a relocation allowance of up to £8,000). We know how important it is to stay connected and mobile, so we'll also provide you with a laptop and phone, and for added convenience, a company car is available.
And Because We’re Part of IVC Evidensia:
• Generous holiday allowance (including your birthday off!).
• Private medical insurance and employee assistance programs.
• Excellent CPD opportunities and certificate support.
• BVA and VDS memberships covered.
• Fantastic perks like pet discounts, cycle-to-work schemes, and retail discounts.
We're Looking For:
• A qualified and experienced equine vet.
• A passion for providing exceptional standards of care.
• A team player with excellent communication skills.
• Someone who values ethical practice and continuous learning.
• An ideal candidate will have a strong interest in lameness and/or orthopaedic surgery.
