Equine Veterinary Surgeon - Paton and Lee - Essex

Vet
28 Apr 2025 BEVA

Sadly, we are losing two of our wonderful veterinary team to exciting pastures new this year: one away from clinical work after four years with the team; the other lured by Australian sunshine to fulfil her passion for stud work having completed her VetGDP phase with us.

We are therefore seeking at least one full-time equine veterinary surgeon to join our supportive and enthusiastic team, with the potential for a part-time role as well.

We are currently a 10-vet (9.2 FTE) independent equine-only RCVS Accredited General Practice. We have superb modern facilities including standing equine MRI, a manège, isolation block, standing surgery and equine dentistry rooms and theatre, all at a beautiful countryside location in the heart of Essex. We have an ‘Outstanding’ rating for the RCVS Client Experience module and we are soon being assessed for further modules, including the Environmental Sustainability award.

The role would suit a wide range of experience levels, from new / recent graduate to certificate-holder. We are looking for a team-player with a positive attitude and the desire to generate your own caseload when ready. To offer variety and supported learning we have a clinic-based rota that allows our vets to spend time at the clinic shadowing colleagues and working up cases between weeks on the road for routine and emergency work. There is plenty of support whether during your professional development phase or as you progress towards gaining a certificate and beyond.

We provide our own out of hours cover. The rota is currently 1:5 weekends with 2 days off in lieu following each weekend worked. The weekday rota is similar, with a half-day off after each weekday night on call. An additional fee is paid for every out-of-hours call attended. There are always 2 vets on duty and at weekends the second vet on duty is always a director to provide experienced support whatever situations might arise.

If you're interested or would like more details about the role, please email our practice manager Kelly Smyth with a covering letter and CV practicemanager@patonandlee.co.uk
