Equine Veterinary Surgeon – Join Our Proudly Independent Practice

Looking to thrive in a supportive, progressive, and friendly environment? Come and join us at Cotts Equine.

We are seeking a full-time equine veterinary surgeon to join our growing ambulatory team, based at our purpose-built clinic in Cowbridge, South Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to become a valued member of Wales’ first and only RCVS-accredited equine hospital-backed team, delivering independent, high-standard veterinary care to a loyal and diverse client base.

What makes us different

  • We’re independent, RCVS-accredited and vet-led
  • We combine a family-feel team culture with the support and expertise of European-boarded specialists in surgery and internal medicine
  • RCVS accredited Tier-3 Hospital based in Narberth
  • Weekly orthopaedic and internal medicine clinics run from Cowbridge with on-site specialist support
  • Purpose-built, expanding facilities in Cowbridge – including a new standing CT scanner, with hospital accreditation anticipated
  • Fully digital practice with seamless access to records, imaging, and labs across sites.

About the Role

You’ll be working as part of our expanding team, providing ambulatory services from our Cowbridge clinic - one of three Cotts Equine branches along the South Wales corridor. You will be fully supported by experienced ambulatory colleagues and the only team in Wales with three European-boarded equine specialists in surgery and internal medicine.

We place a strong emphasis on clinical freedom, case continuity and collaborative working, host regular journal clubs, clinical case discussions and morbidity & mortality rounds. Structured mentoring and an ambulatory training programme are provided to support newer graduates.

An interest in internal medicine or reproduction would be beneficial but is not essential. We’ll support your individual interests, whatever they are.

What We Offer

  • Salary: £34,000 - £60,000 depending on experience and qualifications (with automatic annual increases based on years qualified and time at Cotts)
  • 4-day working week, with at least one long weekend off per month
  • Working hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm
  • OOH rota: 1 in 5, shared equally with full backup and support
  • 30.5 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Pension scheme
  • Vehicle options: practice pool car (expenses covered), or £3k annual car allowance + mileage
  • Subscriptions paid: RCVS, VDS & BEVA
  • Mobile phone provided
  • WPA healthcare (NHS cash top up benefit policy), company sick pay policy and additional Bright HR perks
  • CPD allowance: £1500 per annum, plus full funding and support for certificates.
  • ARVS membership paid, when applicable
  • Access to Cycle to Work and Tech schemes, providing significant savings on bikes, technology and extended warranty

More than just a job

Our diverse and friendly client base offers scope to explore and grow personal clinical interests.

We provide veterinary cover at Ffos Las racecourse and several Point-to-Point events, so ARVS registration and CMS certification would be encouraged and a bonus. Several of our vets are FEI-accredited PTVs, officiating at international competitions, so the pathway is open if you’re interested in this type of work.

We’re more than colleagues - we’re a community, expect coasteering, comedy nights, charity events and team dinners.

We offer discounted pet care and a strong focus on staff wellbeing and work-life balance.

Location

Cowbridge, in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan and along the M4 corridor, offers easy access to the thriving city of Cardiff, the beautiful Welsh Heritage Coast and the diverse scenery of the valleys and Brecon Beacons. It provides the perfect mix of countryside charm and urban convenience - with Pembrokeshire’s coast just an hour away.
