The majority of the hospital admissions at Sycamore Lodge Equine Hospital are elective surgical cases with some medicine and lameness cases as well as a small emergency surgical caseload. Sycamore Lodge Equine Hospital employs two specialist equine surgeons who are supported by a very competent and experienced nursing and intern team.
Hands on involvement in inpatient care and treatment as well as preoperative patient preparation will include patient assessments, medication administration, intravenous catheter placement as well as bandage and dressing changes. In addition, direct involvement in x-raying, surgical assistance, as well as running and monitoring anaesthesia will be strongly encouraged ad supported with all the necessary training and guidance provided. In addition preparing horses for surgery and operating room assistance will be required, as well as involvement in the day to day running of an equine hospital.
Experience is preferred but not essential. Horse handling skills and competency around horses are an essential skill. There are no emergency out-of-hours commitments with this role and any work obligations on a Saturday morning are on a scheduled rotation basis with time off in-lieu. The position offers a basic salary of 32000 euro per annum with paid CPD, VCI registration, and VDS. In addition any overtime is paid time. Further salary negotiations are possible, commensurate with experience.
