Want to live near the beach and wine country while working with a fabulous team? Come join Veterinary Associates Equine in Auckland, New Zealand!

Veterinary Associates Equine is a progressive general and referral practice that consists of three divisions, one in Kumeu, West Auckland, one in Warkworth, North Auckland, and one in Karaka, South Auckland. We are seeking an enthusiastic ambulatory veterinarian to join our Kumeu division and one to join our Karaka division.

Both the Karaka and Kumeu practices are involved in all types of equine pursuits, including sport horses, Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses, stud work and pleasure horses, providing a tremendous variety of work. While the distribution is reasonably even in Karaka, in Kumeu, the majority of the caseload is made up of sport horses and pleasure horses. The Kumeu team is fully ambulatory, while the Karaka location has a purpose-built hospital with full surgical facilities.

As a member of either division, you will join our larger family of twenty veterinarians working throughout the entire Auckland region. Our ambulatory veterinarians have access to dynamic endoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, AI gait analysis, dentistry gear, IRAP, PRP, a stem cell culture facility, and an in-house diagnostic laboratory. Veterinarians on staff at the Vet Associates Equine Hospital in Karaka include two board-certified surgeons and a board-certified internist, all of whom are readily available to provide backup and support for all members of the practice and also welcome referrals to the hospital.

We are committed to fostering a positive workplace culture with regular team meetings, journal club, topic rounds, and social activities. We pride ourselves on a work environment that is supportive, friendly, and engages a team-approach. Ideally the successful candidate will wish to work in a fun and positive team environment and welcome joining a practice that provides high-quality veterinary care. In addition to being a stellar general practitioner, the candidate will have a good sense of humor, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. Experience with breeding work, prepurchase exams, sports medicine, or dentistry would be considered an asset.

New Zealand is renowned for the great outdoors, and our local area is no exception. We have incredible beaches, surf, fishing, forest and bush walks, and great local schools. Being on the outskirts of a large city, there are many restaurants, and city culture is a short drive away. Many of our staff are involved in equestrian sports, including popular local hunts, show jumping, pony club, racing, and polo. This is a great opportunity to join the dedicated and enthusiastic Vet Associates Equine family and to be part of our growing practice in beautiful New Zealand! https://www.newzealand.com/nz/auckland/

A vehicle is provided, a competitive salary will be commensurate with experience, and additional remuneration is earned through after hours work. In addition, paid licensure, a CE/CPD budget, cell phone package, paid NZVA/NZEVA membership, and paid professional liability are all part of the benefits package. New Zealand offers a publicly funded national healthcare system and an employer-matched retirement savings plan known as “KiwiSaver.” Four weeks of annual leave are also included with additional time off in exchange for after-hours work.

To submit an application, or should you have any questions about the position, please contact us by email at practicemanager@vetassociates.co.nz. Applications should include a cover letter, a CV, and the names and contact details of three references.
