Equine Veterinary Surgeon - Lower House Equine Clinic - Shropshire

Equine Veterinary Surgeon

Due to an expanding case load, we are looking for a new colleague to join our team at LHEC

The role is predominantly ambulatory, but with the opportunity to work up your own cases at the clinic if you’d like to or if you prefer to be on the road to refer them in.

We have a varied caseload ranging from companion horses to high level performance horses.

We plan our diary to reduce driving and all of our team enjoy a one hour lunch break.

We would ideally like someone experienced, but we would also consider a driven recent graduate. Experience in anaesthesia and an interest in medicine would be beneficial but not essential.

Support provided on visits where required by our intern (starting in July 2024) or our RVN

Our new colleague will be a good communicator, with a strive to provide excellent care to our clients and patients out on the road.

The on call consists of a 1 in 5 rota with the Friday off following a weekend worked.

About us….

We are an equine only clinic based on the Shropshire border with easy access to Shrewsbury, Chester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, and the beautiful Welsh Coast. We opened our doors 7 years ago with the aim of providing an independent, bespoke, personal service to our clients whilst striving for excellence in patient care.

Our clinic is small (just six stables), but mighty (operating theatre, air conditioned exam rooms, all the latest diagnostic equipment, in house lab which includes ACTH testing, and rapid PCR and excellent lameness work up facilities).

Our team are friendly, dedicated, and supportive. We have won numerous business awards, we are an RCVS accredited practice and a Veterinary Nurse Training Practice, which is down to the whole teams’ hard work and support

The vets’ cars, some might say are a little fancy – Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid Automatic … we think they keep our vets comfortable, make driving easier and help to play a small part in helping the environment. They are also fitted with custom refrigerated storage kits and temperature sensor monitoring straight to your phone.

Our senior vet is an advanced practitioner in Equine Orthopaedic surgery and Equine Dentistry and is always available for help and support with cases. We have regular clinical meetings and encourage progressive CPD as well as funding for a certificate in the vet’s chosen area.

Our support team are very experienced and help our vets in whichever way, from our administration team, to our grooms and qualified nurse. We also support student veterinary nurses.

Our clients are incredibly nice, and our patients range from companion ponies and donkeys to British team horses and each one gets treated with the same standard of care.

Our out of hours is generally very quiet. The phones are answered by an RVN or senior vet, so you are only bothered with genuine emergencies.

We don’t do zone visits; we like our clients to have the choice and flexibility but also we like our vets to have the time and continuity with cases.

Over the last few years we have largely reduced our area that we cover to prevent our vets from spending more time in the car than being a vet

We also encourage equine nurse visits to free up your time
